ADA Transportation Training

July 11-13, 2006

The Great Lakes ADA and Accessible IT Center in collaboration with the Southwest ADA & IT Center (DLRP) and the Pacific ADA & IT Centers are sponsoring a comprehensive three-day ADA Transportation Training featuring:

Marilyn Golden, lead trainer is a Policy Analyst at the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF), our nation's foremost national law and policy center on disability civil rights. She has been closely involved with the Americans with Disabilities Act throughout its proposal and passage and now during its implementation. Golden has played a lead role in policy development on the federal level in the areas of transportation and architectural barriers. A highly lauded ADA trainer, she has led numerous in-depth training programs, and is the principal author of DREDF's highly respected ADA curriculum.

Russell Thatcher is a Senior Transportation Planner with TranSystems. He has 27 years of experience in transit and paratransit planning, policy, and operations, and he has particular expertise in ADA transportation requirements, service planning and evaluation, ADA paratransit eligibility determination, and innovative services for individuals with disabilities. Since 1991, Mr. Thatcher has worked extensively on issues related to implementation of the ADA. He was a co-author of the Federal Transit Administration's (FTA's) ADA Paratransit Handbook and the author of FTA's ADA Paratransit Eligibility Manual. He also worked with FTA's Office of Civil Rights to develop an ADA Compliance Review Manual. Since 1996, Mr. Thatcher has conducted reviews of paratransit and fixed route services in over 45 cities.

This training program will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the ADA's Transportation requirements through a combination of presentations, question/answer sessions and smaller group settings. Participants will have an opportunity to explore for themselves in a hands-on way what solutions the ADA provides for common transportation difficulties experienced by people with disabilities across the United States.

Registration Fee: $100.00 (Covers course materials and light refreshments). Individuals are responsible for their own travel costs (airfare, ground travel, lodging, meals, etc.)
